X Golf Woodbury Golf Lesson review

I took my first ever golf lesson in Woodbury at X Golf and here are my key takeaways.

  1. X golf simulators are awesome.
Seemingly very accurate ball flight tracing even when you hit a grounder into the base of the screen. The best part about the X golf simulator vs other sims I’ve been to is that the balls automatically get teed up for you after each shot.
  2. Brandon was a great teacher.
He was easy going and insightful on my swing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him. He didn’t want to overhaul my swing but rather give some fundamental tips on how I could make it a little better.
  3. Recommend X golf for a group of buddies.
The atmosphere in there was great with a full bar and TVs. I could see heading back to X golf to watch a game or just a good winter golf getaway during the frigid months in Minnesota.

How Much Did a Golf Lesson Cost at X Golf?

I paid $75 for 1 hour of sim time, which included the lesson too. Well worth it.

My Swing Analysis

Stop reading here if you couldn’t care less about my golf swing 🙂

I fully own my hockey player slapshot swing. Many state of hockey golfers might have similar tendencies. I come through very shallow. Here were the main takeaways to improve my swing.

  1. Don’t transition too quickly
I wasn’t getting my swing far enough back before starting with the downswing.
  2. Narrow Stance
This will help me rotate better. I have a very wide stance. Brandon recommended shoulder width for my 7 iron and wider for my driver). If your stance is too wide it prevents you from rotating
  3. Stay balanced in follow through
I was tending to fall backwards in follow through
  4. Start divot just in front of the ball to gain more height
My ball flight is low. He thought I might be striking the ground too early.

Here is my follow up text from Brandon …

Minnesota Golf Simulator with Putting

That’s right, putting is actually fairly accurate at X golf (at least better than handful of other sims I’ve been on). Even though I don’t care much for putting on a simulator (I’d rather all irons/wedges), it seems like they did it right.
